As
time dwindles on this project, things are getting cut left and right.
Originally meant to be a 25 minute musical, Velvet Lace has been reduced
to a 5 minute chase sequence. I'm trying to think of ways to make
it more self contained in that 5 minutes, but I'll post about that
some other day. Anyways, originally one of my big visions for this
project was nature. A victorian England so overrun with animals and
plants that the people almost looked out of place. Every square inch
of the car chase was going to be exploding with wildflowers and butterflies,
birds and foxes were going to be appearing and dissapearing at every
given moment in the film. These elements would not stick out, but
would hopefully blend into the film itself, melding with the larger
than life characters and creating a unique and entertaining world.
The purpose behind this was to contrast the technology of the cars,
and add a more whimsical and storybookish feel to the whole she-bang.
Even the characters had natural designs. Antonius and Dracy are decorated
in flowers and vines, while Bartleby gets Angels and animals. Yet
this is one of those things that will get cut b/c of time constraints.
So, why does this merit a paragraph that noone will read on a site
that noone visits? Simply because BurlyBUFF and Npickle are names
that should be associated with imagination and quality. When coming
up with the idea for this film, we strove to top Lost Springs, not
just in the story department (easy), but also in imagination. Without
the vast forests of Velvet Lace, I fear this picture may lose some
of the magic that made it so appealing to me in the first place. I
was hoping for something that people could watch and have a real opinion
about, but will most likely produce a mindless fight scene. Hopefully
Nick, Patrick and I will be able to cram enough fun into this thing
to make it entertaining, but i'll always regret not having my flowers.
